What a wonderful surprise when I started reading The Summer Kitchen for our interview with Lisa Wingate on Thursday. She bases the book around a woman who has become “lost” since her world turned upside down with the death of her uncle and disappearance of her oldest son. As she’s fixing up her dear uncle’s house to sell, she drives by small children dumpster diving for food. And from there, you can’t put the book down. I had no idea from the title and cover that The Summer Kitchen would be such a poignant story! Well done Lisa!
The best part is that I just discovered it’s the beginning of a series called ” Blue Sky Hills Series.” There are several sub-characters in the book that I’d like to know more about.
A Bride in the Bargain

We had a wonderful visit with Deeanne Gist here at CBD last Wednesday. We’ve had many firsts together, including her first interview. This time we did our first video interview together.
By the way, this cover is actually Deeanne’s daughter posing in the bridal gown.
Several women have asked where to get the bridal gown so they can have the same style for their wedding.
A Bride in the Bargain is based in Seattle with a lumberjack as the main romantic character. What’s amazing is that they still have lumberjack festivals in Seattle, since logging continures to be a strong industry; and most of Deeanne’s details reflect the actual history of the area. There really was an Ava Mercer who conned women to come from the east to marry men in the west; and charged both the women and the men for the opportunity(?!)
Had a wonderful evening with Deeanne Gist.
