If you have visited Christianbook.com/academic recently you may have noticed that Hendrickson Publishers has listed a 14 Volume set of the Church Dogmatics on our website for the unbelievable price of $99.99.

This publishing event, while not as important as the initial publication of the Dogmatics in English, is nevertheless quite significant as it marks the only time the Church Dogmatics have been made available for a price under 100$., and therefore making access to this landmark work available to anyone and everyone who wants it.

At Christianbook.com/academic we have received many questions (as has Hendrickson) concerning the publication of the Hendrickson edition of Barth’s Dogmatics. On account of this, I thought it wise to provide a FAQ addressing the main questions people are asking in hopes of making sure everyone can be clear ahead of time just what this product is. Also, to this end, feel free to leave comments and/or further questions below, if you have them.

Is this set the same as the original published by T&T Clark and edited by T. F. Torrance and G.W. Bromiley?

Yes. This set is the same edition. It was available for years in hardback, and also more recently in paperback.

Is there an image of the new cover for the Hendrickson edition available?

No. We expect some type of image from Hendrickson this Spring.

Does this set include the English translations of Greek, Latin, and other languages found in T&T Clark’s new 31 Vol. study ed.?

No. This new volume from Hendrickson reflects only the text as it was originally published by T&T Clark.

Will the Hendrickson edition include the Prefaces from the original 14 Vol., edition?

Yes. Every single page from the original 14 Vol T&T Clark edition will be included in the “new” Hendrickson edition.

Is the Hendrickson edition being published in hardback as is listed on the Christianbook.com/academic website?

Yes. The “new” Hendrickson edition is being published as a hardback in 14 Vols., and should prove to be a sturdy edition for years to come.

Will the Hendrickson set always sale for $99.99 on Christianbook.com/academic?

This can’t be confirmed. What I can say is that it is the pre-order price, and that you will not find a similar deal anywhere else.

Will individual volumes be sold?

Maybe. This, so far as I have been able to ascertain is undecided. Of courrse customer suggestions never hurt. It shoudl also be kept in mind that their is a high probability that early in 2011 we will start seeing “slightly imperfect” volumes.

Is there a way to avoid shipping costs?

Yes, if you live in the Boston area. At Christianbook.com/academic we provide a way for you to stop in and pick up your order on Friday of every week. Simply make the appropriate selection when you go to checkout. You will need to stop by our headquarters at 140 Summit St. Peabody, MA to pick up your set when it becomes available in November.
